The following was written by a human. No artificial intelligence was used.
The above statement will likely be required later this year on published work. Generative artificial intelligence (AI*) is improving rapidly with more people using it.
Generative AI is new and different from all other AI. While generative AI performs tasks based on existing data (like other AI), it goes further by creating new content, such as text, images, and audio. Generative AI just needs a short text prompt from a human.
The most popular generative AI is ChatGPT** (version 3.5). This is a user-friendly, free to use, version from the company OpenAI. In April 2023, GPT-4 came out as part of a paid subscription to ChatGPT. This newest version can understand not only text, but images. As an example, OpenAI’s President Greg Brockman showed GPT-4 a photo of a hand-drawn website and GPT-4 create a real website from the photo only.
Generative AI is being used by many individuals, businesses, media, and governments with more signing up every day. Companies are already laying off editors and graphic designers because generative AI is faster, better, and cheaper.
Is generative AI bad or good? The debate continues. However, most industry people believe it has already started to change how people work, play, and think. How people lived their lives in January 2023 will be different at the end of 2023.
As for authors, can ChatGPT write a novel? Version 3.5 could not. With version 4.0, it has been done by providing ChatGPT a series of prompts to complete the novel one step at a time.

P.S. I did not see if ChatGPT could write this article because it likely could have done it better.
* Merriam-Webster dictionary: AI is “the capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behavior.”
** GPT is a term coined by OpenAI and stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer

Pro tip: Ask it to write funny poems, pirate conversations, or ballads about inappropriate body parts. You won’t regret it.
This is one of my favorite things about you, Jessi! XD
No way Chatwick could’ve done this better than you, Stanley, because he doesn’t have your imagination. You know I love AI, but I understand where the concerns are coming from. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Alas, the end is nigh.
