On December 18th, Carteret Writers will meet at Clawson’s Restaurant on the Beaufort waterfront. We invite current and prospective members to join us for food, drink, gifts, and community. Please bring a wrapped book for a white elephant gift exchange and your imagination for a community poem activity.

Carteret Writers and Clawsons share a long history. Founded in 1983, Carteret Writers has engaged, nurtured, and connected local writers for over forty years. In the past, the group held monthly meet-ups at Clawsons, and we are excited to return to our old haunt for the December event. Ours is a long history, but Clawson’s is even longer.

Stepping into Clawson’s 1905 Restaurant & Pub is a trip back in time. Memorabilia from the early 1900s adorns the walls – old newspaper clippings, antique tools, even a post office window. Parts of the floor are made from old ships’ wood. Everywhere you look, the past comes to life. Clawson’s began as a grocery and bakery in 1905 (the bakery was older and located at Back Street Pub). It became a restaurant in the 1970s and has since seen generations of patrons within its wooden walls.

During our meeting, guests will be able to order food and drinks, such as Down East clam chowder, a turkey and cranberry sandwich, housemade eggnog, and local craft beer. Come celebrate another year of writing together. See you at Clawson’s!
